There's something that I'd like you to know!

Updated: Mar 5, 2023

As a Liverpool fan, it's with a heavy heart that I write this tribute to Bobby Firmino, who earlier today announced his departure from Liverpool Football Club at the end of the season. Firmino has been an integral part of our success over the past few years, playing a crucial role in the team's multiple successes.

Firmino's tireless work rate, unselfishness, and ability to score crucial goals in big moments have endeared him to the Kop faithful, and he's been a pivotal member of Jurgen Klopp's squad, possessing a unique skill set that elevated the performances of those around him. I'm sure Mo Salah and Sadio Mané would be the first in the queue to thank him over how he took a backseat, and allowed the pair to flourish and become two of the world's biggest and most sought after forwards. His infectious personality made him a beloved figure in the dressing room too.

As Liverpool fans, we will always remember his dazzling iconic smile and his equally dazzling array of skills that left defenders slack-jawed. Firmino's positive attitude and commitment to the team have been an inspiration and example to fans and young professionals worldwide.

But while Bobby's will be missed, I think I'm mature enough nowadays to realise it's probably for the best, for both the player and ourselves as the team attempt to re-invent themselves. As a child, I remember the heartbreak of hearing that Robbie Fowler had been sold to Leeds. It felt like the end of the world at the time, and I couldn't imagine Liverpool without him, but we moved on, and we will again.

Between 12 and 18 months ago it would have been difficult to imagine a Liverpool side without the Brazilian, as he had become such an integral part of this team's identity under Jurgen Klopp. And while his departure will undoubtedly leave a void that will be difficult to fill, with Darwin Nuñez and Cody Gakpo already on the books I feel were in a good position to move forward without him.

His impact on this club's recent successes cannot be understated, although his role at Liverpool was often maligned by those outside the club for not scoring enough goals. As we look towards the future, we must have faith and continue building on our recent successes, create new legends and carry on the legacy that Bobby has helped to build.

Roberto Firmino's departure marks the end of a chapter in Liverpool's history, but his legendary status is up there with the greats. When he eventually hangs up his magic boots he will be remembered by the fans as a crucial member Liverpool's biggest most recent successes, including our 19th League title in 30 years, our Champions League final win in Madrid, and our first FIFA Club World Cup triumph... oh and having one of the best chants ever!

As fans we should look to the future with optimism. Liverpool as a club under Klopp will undoubtedly continue to evolve and grow, and new legends will emerge to carry on the recent legacy that Firmino has helped us to build. As we prepare for life after one of our most beloved players, we can only hope that Firmino will go on to find success and happiness wherever his journey takes him. Hopefully that will be in one of the top tiers of European football where he still belongs. He will forever be hailed as a true Liverpool legend, and his impact on the club will be remembered, and his contributions cherished.

And who know's maybe there's a final chapter to be written this season in the Bobby Firmino story.
